Playing a musical instrument is a very rewarding pastime. Whether it is at school or college, Boca Raton’s youth are encouraged to add music to their curriculum. For those who might have missed the opportunity to pursue musical dreams at school, it is never too late. Once you have become reasonably proficient on your chosen instrument it may be a good idea to purchase one of your own. Don’t forget that if the instrument is expensive, you might need to add an endorsement for it to your homeowners insurance. Boca Raton agents can let you know if this would be necessary.

While some instruments are relatively cheap, many represent a serious investment. When the amount is above the limit for your personal property coverage it is prudent to purchase additional coverage with a ‘valuable item endorsement’. You should speak with your insurance agent and question what exactly is covered under the policy. Check whether you would be covered if the item was stolen while travelling. What would happen if you were in an orchestra and your instrument was being transported and got damaged?

For professional musicians or collectors of musical instruments who have an antique or rare instrument of high value it becomes more important to check your coverage.

Do you earn money playing your instrument? Musicians with a range of equipment used for business purposes may find it’s not covered by their homeowners insurance in Boca Raton.  Business insurance policies may provide more appropriate coverage and it is worth speaking to your agent for advice in this regard.
